Three American Public Television Programs Honored With 2011 Daytime Emmy Awards

BOSTON (June 20, 2011) – The 38th Annual Daytime Entertainment Creative Arts Emmy Awards honored three American Public Television-distributed series, recognizing outstanding achievement in all fields of daytime television production. The winners were announced in a gala celebration at the Westin Bonaventure in Los Angeles on June 17.

Popular French chef Eric Ripert’s cooking series, AVEC ERIC, won one of the night's highest honors – "Outstanding Culinary Program." Hosted by Ripert himself, AVEC ERIC provides an insider’s view of the professional life and lifestyle of the master chef. The series takes viewers from behind-the-scenes at Ripert’s three-star Michelin New York restaurant Le Bernadin to the sources of his inspiration.

The APT Exchange documentary NEW ORLEANS: GETTING BACK TO NORMAL, which follows Louisiana homeowners and business owners immersed in rebuilding their lives and neighborhoods after Hurricane Katrina, was named "Outstanding Special Class Special." The acclaimed travel series TRAVELSCOPE, hosted by Joseph Rosendo, also won an Emmy for "Outstanding Achievement in Single Camera Photography (Film or Electronic)."

American Public Television programs also earned 10 other nominations. Included in the nominations were three other APT cooking shows in contention for “Outstanding Culinary Program” – AMERICA'S TEST KITCHEN FROM COOK'S ILLUSTRATED, COOK'S COUNTRY FROM AMERICA'S TEST KITCHEN and LIDIA'S ITALY. Chris Kimball of AMERICA'S TEST KITCHEN FROM COOK'S ILLUSTRATED was also nominated for "Outstanding Lifestyle/Culinary Host."

NEW ORLEANS: GETTING BACK TO NORMAL earned a nomination for "Outstanding Special Class Directing." BIZ KID$, the series that teaches kids financial responsibility and entrepreneurship, received nominations for "Outstanding Achievement in Single Camera Photography (Film or Electronic)" and "Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing – Live Action and Animation."

ROUGH CUT – WOODWORKING WITH TOMMY MAC picked up a bid for "Outstanding Directing in a Lifestyle / Culinary Program." In addition, EQUITREKKING, the first travel television series to explore the world on horseback, earned a nomination for "Outstanding Special Class Writing."

In total, American Public Television programs encompassed 13 of public television's 59 Daytime Emmy award nominations.
